Sunday was one of those special days. The kind I’ll hold near and dear for as long as I can remember. A Mary kind of moment: “She treasured up all these kinds and pondered them in her heart.” It was such a gift to gather together in the Missiongathering courtyard – where so many of us have been welcomed into this church for the first time. And then to sojourn as one, up the sidewalk and into the new building.
It was then deeply meaningful to hear the voices of our people. To hold your reflections and concerns, convictions and cares. Every voice carried weight and every thought was a testimonio beholding the beloved DNA of our comunidad. We’re taking all of it deeply to heart. And at this time, we can reflect back on these things:
Open House + Building Updates
1. We feel deeply encouraged and emboldened by our familia as a whole to continue the rental agreement process with Conexión and Pasadena Mennonite Church. This new building feels like our new home. And as our own Mindy Melgar noticed: the building’s address – 1041 N. Altadena Dr – shares a cross street with Casa Grande Street. And so it only feels fitting to call this new home of ours, one that will house three different churches under one roof: Casa Grande. How beautiful is that?!
2. As for the pending details – What part of the building will we worship in? How will we address our physical and tangible needs: accessibility, lighting, and air conditioning? Will all of the kids’ spaces be available to us? Please know we are pursuing each of these pivotal pieces with so much care and intentionality. Not a single concern has been left untouched. And we will certainly keep our familia in touch as more is finalized.
I’m excited, friends! And I hope you’re excited, too! Because even though change is hard. This change feels good and right. And also, because we have even more to be excited about!
Our 3rd Birthday + Last Sunday at MG
This coming Sunday we will celebrate our Third Anniversary as an iglesia! What started in a house and launched on Zoom screens and then blossomed into an in-person community is still going and still growing! And we want to make sure we celebrate well! Come join us for our last service at Missiongathering – with mariachi y churros y más! We will take time to communally remember and reflect on our time there. While also celebrating all God’s faithfulness in sustaining this faith community into the beautiful familia we are!
Just a note: We’ll welcome our Younger People’s Church into the service with us so we can celebrate, remember, and reflect together!
1st Sunday at Casa Grande + A New Series
Save the Date for Sunday, October 1st! This will be our first service at Casa Grande! And we’ll be stepping into a new series together focused on the themes of movement and migration. This focus has been consistently emerging in conversations among us as we continue to honor Latinx Heritage Month while also looking forward to Filipino American History Month in October and Indigenous Peoples’ Month in November. So join us as we navigate movement and migration all across our Scriptures while also holding and honoring the varied sacred stories of many within our own familia.
Our God has brought us this far, familia. And our God promises to never leave us. So looking forward to seeing your faces and hearing your voices once again this weekend. For to see you and hear you is to see and hear the faithfulness of God.
With hope,
Bobby
