Familia,
I hope your Sabbath Sunday last weekend was refreshing and restoring. And that your heart is ready to Be With once more. Community is calling and we’re longing to worship together again!
While we were originally planning for our series, The Story of the Spirit, to simply take us to Pentecost Sunday, we’ve decided to keep the story going! Because there’s so much more on the Spirit we want to sit with as a familia! So join us as we keep living into and co-creating this shared Story of the Spirit!
Bert Newton Preaching
This Sunday we will have the Rev. Bert Newton as our guest preacher. Pastor Bert represents Making Housing and Communities Happen which is one of our Community Partners in the work of housing justice. He will preach on a theology of land and housing and invite us to engage in several calls to action. Pastora Inés and I first heard Bert share this message during our Reconcile Pasadena Pastor’s Cohort in 2022, and we immediately knew this word needed to be given to our people as well. We’re so excited the time has come!
First Sunday Food & Fellowship
Once a month we gather after Sunday service and go out to eat together. We’re still making plans for the What and Where for this week. But we know the Who…and it’s You! We’ll share during the announcements the plan for the evening. But go ahead and put it in your calendar: dinner with church familia this Sunday!
Phil Allen Jr. at Vroman’s
Our brother and Board Member, Phil Allen Jr., will be discussing his latest book, The Prophetic Lens, on Monday, June 12th at 7 PM at Vroman’s Main Store in Pasadena. And if you haven’t checked the book out for yourself already, you can look here to get a copy for yourself!
Building Update
Well, this part will be short and sweet: we still haven’t heard anything. Not a word. We’ve sent emails. Knocked on doors. Tried. And waited. And still nothing. We keep hearing we’ll be updated soon. But it’s starting to kinda feel like that time at the end of the book when Jesus said he would be coming back soon! Two. Thousand. Years. Later…
Well, I guess as we’re waiting on Jesus, we can wait to hear back about this building! And as promised, we’ll continue to keep you updated all along the way until we know something more!
One thing you will notice this upcoming Sunday is that the Communion Table we’ve used to create beautiful memories together (not least of which the Kamayan Feast!), is gone! The original owners picked it up and returned it to the church in San Diego. We sure will miss the beauty of that table of grace!
Love you, familia! And looking forward to Being With soon!
Bobby
