Weekly Update August 18, 2022

Beloved,

One Word: Atypical

Before getting into all the happenings of our community, I want to first begin by naming something I’ve seen in this season. In the midst of a typical church summer, a community is usually scattered, weathered, and thin – like California grass come August. But if I’ve learned anything from our familia over these past two years: we’re anything but typical! So I shouldn’t have been so surprised these past few months to consistently see both familiar friends and find new faces among us! These days have brought an atypical, but steady pulse of vitality I’ve been surprised by and grateful for. This is only the work of the Spirit, church. I’m not celebrating some great growth plan we’ve implemented or strategy we learned in seminary. Instead, I’m honoring the real-time work of the Triune God alive in our Body. In the simple and the profound. One person at a time. One week at a time. One Spirit-sent connection at a time.

Two Important Dates: 9/4 & 9/11

  • We will be taking Labor Day Weekend off as a church. Instead of gathering for a worship service on Sunday, September 4th, we’re instead inviting everyone to connect with familia and friends that day. And then come back the next weekend for…
  • Our Two Year Anniversary Sunday is Sunday, September 11th! Save the Date as we celebrate two whole years of gathering together to worship and live as a faith familia!

Three Quick Things

  • This past Sunday, we prayed over and dedicated our dear sister, Alicia McCormick, as a Foster Mom. If you would like to follow along and support her journey you can do so on IG @alicia.m.mccormick and also through her meal train link: https://mealtrain.com/qmzww1.
  • Our brother, Phil Allen, Jr., will be preaching this coming Sunday! Every time Phil preaches in our church, the Spirit moves!! So we’re anticipating good things and God-things! Join us in praying for Phil as he prepares to bring the Word!
  • It’s the Third Sunday of the Month which means our friends, Sarah Obermeyer and Sarah Dornbos will be hosting an online space for Contemplative Practices. This Sunday at 7 PM they will be focusing on “Transitions”. You can join here: https://www.zoom.us/j/3982988211 (no password)

That’s all I got, church! May you continue to walk in the vitality and creativity of God this week!
