Building Updates

This week, we have taken two distinct steps in the building process we’d like to share so we may all continue to walk this journey together.

First, Inés and I met with two leaders from The Living Way Church – the new owners of the building we are currently in. We showed them the areas we use on Sundays, our storage spaces, and our normal flow for each week. They were generous, amicable, and considerate. And they reiterated their support for us to remain in the building as we continue in the search for our new home.

Second, a dear friend of ours, Juan Pablo Plaza, recently reached out to us about the building his church owns. Juan Pablo is one of the Co-Pastors of Conexión Pasadena, alongside Pastora Adriana y Pastora Fernanda.

Conexión’s building is just four blocks north of us. We were recently able to walk through the building and get a feel for it. We sensed a Spirit of warmth and welcome in the Fellowship Hall there, a presence both intimate and inviting.

The Fellowship Hall is being used by Pasadena Mennonite Church on Sunday mornings. And if you were with us at the beginning of summer when Rev. Bert Newton preached on A Just Theology of Land & Housing, you may recall that PMC is Bert’s church home!

So, as we’re holding all these relationships in hand, we’re wondering if there’s a distinctly beautiful possibility of partnership with our three kindred Spirit faith familias all sharing space in the same building on Sunday’s.

There are still plenty of steps to be taken before any of this can come to fruition. And it’s in these that we’d especially invite your prayers and discernment.

  1. Pastor Juan Pablo is reaching out to his denomination to see if they are open to having another renter on property.
  2. If the answer is yes, then we will aim to have a meeting with Conexión’s leadership as well as Pasadena Mennonite’s leadership to make sure all parties are on the same page in welcoming us into this shared space.
  3. If that support is unanimous, we would then desire to welcome our people into this space to pray and listen together – just as we did before officially committing to our rental agreement with Missiongathering in 2021.
  4. If all these were to feel true to where we are communally being moved by the Spirit, we would then take the necessary steps to make this our new home. But we would not want to do so without this truly being The Story of the Spirit active among us.

So, familia: please be praying and discerning with us. And we will continue to make our Beloved Community aware of any and all developments!

With hope,

Bobby
