Guest artists Illumine Playback Theatre led a special advent church service on December 20, 2020.
Playback Theatre is a form of improvisational theatre in which members of the audience share stories from their lives, then the troupe retells it on the spot using movement, improvisation, and music. Illumine Playback Theatre uniquely weaves together elements of liturgy and prayer into the Playback method. The word “illumine” means “to throw light on,” so the troupe sees each performance as an opportunity to shed light on the deeper meaning and truth of each story that is shared.
Illumine’s intention is to create spaces where living conversations can take place, where those present feel welcome to share honestly about the triumphs and pains of life, and where the language of our conversations is spoken through embodied empathy.
