Position:

Director of Children and Youth Ministries

Summary:

The Director of Children and Youth Ministries leads our kids/family ministry from preschool to high school graduation. From investing in, equipping, and empowering volunteer teams, creatively overseeing programming and curriculum, and engaging kids and their families, this leader has a critical role in the discipleship of kids and families in our church.

Student Ministry Overview:

We currently have three student ministry areas:

  • Kids Care (Preschool: 2-4 years old)
    • meets every Sunday during service
  • Younger People’s Church (Elementary: Kindergarten-5th grade)
    • meets every Sunday during service
  • Under Construction (Middle School & High School: 6th-12th grade)
    • meets 1st & 3rd Sunday of every month during the second half of service
  • We also desire to have Baptism & Baby Dedication services twice a year.

Position Objectives:

This position has 3 primary people roles:

  1. Kid/student care
  2. Parent/caregiver discipleship
  3. Equipping leaders to serve kids/youth

Key Responsibilities:

Creating Safe and Inclusive Spaces:

Ensure that our kids and youth ministries are environments where every child and teenager feels safe, valued, and welcomed.

Pastoral Care:

Provide compassionate pastoral care to families involved in our student ministries, offering support and guidance as needed.

Building Welcoming Communities:

Be a warm and inviting presence for children, youth, families, and volunteers, fostering a sense of belonging and community within our ministry.

Team Development:

Lead the development of multiethnic, intergenerational teams centered around Jesus Christ, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.

Spiritual Formation:

Intentionally guide our children and youth toward a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ, shaping them into adults who know and love Him deeply.

Curriculum Development:

Develop and implement racially, gender, and justice-conscious curriculums and programs for Sunday kids and youth services, as well as additional engagement opportunities beyond Sundays.

Community Engagement:

Envision and execute meaningful opportunities for kids, youth, and families to engage with each other beyond regular services, including special events and activities.

Child Protection and Safety:

Implement and oversee child protection and safety training protocols, ensuring the well-being of all participants in our ministries.

This role necessitates a blend of administrative prowess and pastoral sensitivity. You will be responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of our children and youth ministries while providing pastoral leadership and support to our young members and their families.

Our church values collaboration and teamwork. We expect our Children and Youth Director to work closely with our Co-Lead Pastors, contributing to the overall vision and mission of our church community.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred, but not required)
  • Seminary degree (preferred, but not required)
  • Pastoral ordination (preferred, but not required)
  • Training and/or Education in Child Development
  • Experience in leading in Children’s Ministry or Education (3-5 years minimum)
  • Desire for kids ministry, vision for the details it takes to pull it off, and love for the kids and youth you influence.
  • Passion to lead in an equitable environment that celebrates and includes diversity while striving for oneness and collaboration
  • Background Check

Hours & Pay:

  • Part-time: 15-20 hours per week
  • Pay range: $22-28/hour.
  • Includes:
    • Weekly in-person worship service (Sundays, 4 PM)
    • Weekly staff meeting with Co-Lead pastors (Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, 9:30-11 AM)

Benefits & Support:

  • Flexible schedule
  • $300 stipend per year for annual solo retreat
  • $600 stipend per year for Therapy or Spiritual Direction

Reports:

  • Bi-monthly with one or both of the Co-Lead Pastors
  • Subject to 90-day, 6-month, and 1-year review process
