Yesterday afternoon, this song stirred in my spirit. One of those ones we sung all the time many years ago. And I couldn’t figure out why it was rising in me here and now. But then the words hit me: the air we breathe. Ah yes, our breath. All the fears we’re carrying about the air we’re breathing. This song was to be a centering song here and now. A defiant proclamation of praise.
As I sat down to record, my backdoor was still open. And I realized: this needed to be recorded out there. With the sounds of cars and trucks driving by. The birds above and the baby next door. Everyday earth joining in the song. And finally, last night I set up the camera on the roof and did a time lapse of one of those spectacular California sunsets. All of this, the miraculous and mundane, is the air we breathe.
And so, church, sit and listen. Sing along. Or let it be sung over you. Allow the visuals to take you to a peaceful place. Use this is a centering, grounding meditative exercise. Or simply enjoy the view.
We’re lost without you, LORD. But we’re not without you.
