The community at the cross of Jesus in John 19:25-27 was made up of his Mother Mary, his aunt, Mary the mother of Clopas, and John the beloved disciple. These disciples stayed with Jesus faithfully until the end. They had shared history, shared joys, shared pain, shared hope with Jesus. Also, the last thing that Jesus did as he hung on the cross was take care of his mother. At the cross, Jesus recalibrates the familia of God with ties that aren’t biological, but spiritual. Jesus puts the lonely in families.
